ODE TO NATIVE TONGUES - DJ Platurn feat. sOuL From The O & Lalin St. Juste *Dir. by Lil' Zen Ten

Alright y'all. So this animated music video took me well over 4 years to make. Maybe I could've called it "finished" several times before I eventually did, but it was never good enough - and it still isn't. I chipped away at it in my "free time" (and if you know me, you know I don't have any). It almost drove me crazy and it nearly broke my love life lol. I kept adding elements to it that weren't asked for, but kept realizing they were required, on the strength. It's comprised of thousands of hand-drawn images and was truly a labor of love, honor, and most importantly, RESPECT. But this isn't client work... it's church.

How do you sufficiently pay tribute to the gods? The answer is: you can't. You do what you can, as best you can, in hopes that they hear you and maybe, just maybe, understand how much they mean to you. In addition to changing hip-hop with their pioneering sound and philosophy, the Native Tongues family changed my life. And whether you know it or not, they changed yours too.

The story sOuL From The O tells in this song is about how he came to discover Native Tongues, and it's probably similar to how a lot of us found them too. DJ Platurn's production and Lalin's supporting vocals rounds out the essence of the Native Tongues sound. I tried to include as many seminal album covers in this thing as I could, but between the OG's and the extended family, this would have to be a feature film to fit them all in. Finally, to get the co-sign from the GOAT, Prince Paul, means everything to us, and hopefully is an indication that we did the damn thing here.
