Tech N9ne is the latest guest on “Rate The Bars.” The co-founder of Strange Music stresses that he wants to see some gangsta songwriting. The Kansas City, Missouri veteran, Indie Rap juggernaut, and member of The Regime hands out several perfect scores, praising bars that are especially rooted in street-life.
He admits that he wishes he was able to give his “Sriracha” bars a 10. Tech does dole out 5’s to Raekwon’s 2017 video single “This Is What It Comes Too,” Jay Rock’s “90059,” Machine Gun Kelly’s “Edge Of Destruction” (a song that features the rater), Hopsin’s “Fly,” and Pharoahe Monch’s “Rapid Eye Movement.” He also hands Yasiin Bey (“Cream Of The Planet”) and Tekashi 6ix9ine (“Gummo”) both a 3 for selections. Meanwhile, Freddie Gibbs nabs a 4 for “Scottie Pippen.”
Notably, Jay Rock first-released his debut album, Follow Me Home on Tech’s Strange Music back in 2011. Tech has served as a mentor at points to Jay, as well as Hop’, M.G.K., and Snow Tha Product. He’s a bit hard on Atlantic Records’ San Jose, California MC. Tech gives the batch of bars from her “So Dope (They Wanna)” a sharp 1 rating, after he’s admits confusion by the mentions of sexual relations in the lyrics. “That’s not a chick, unless she goes both ways,” he says. At the close of the excerpt, the MC says, “Nah, I don’t like that. I give that a 1. Sorry, and sh*t. Maybe to a beat it might sound better, I don’t f*ckin’ know.” What is interesting about this rating is that Snow’s verse appears on Tech’s 2013 Something Else album. More than that, the song was a video single.
