In a preview of an interview that will be aired later on Tuesday evening, Wilson told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that he never shot towards Brown’s back. And Wilson said that he feared for his life because the teen reached into his car, and grabbed for his gun.
Wilson said that he was sorry that Brown had died, but “he would not do anything differently that day,” according to Stephanopoulos. “He did what he was trained to do. He was simply doing his job.”
The ABC News host asked Wilson if things “would have gone down any differently if Michael Brown were white.”
“Absolutely not,” Wilson reportedly replied, adding that he had a “clean conscience.”
Jezebel’s Kate Dries, who first pointed out details of the interview, asserted that “racist tendencies are so deeply ingrained in Darren Wilson’s mind that he can’t even acknowledge them.”
ABC was expected to air more of the interview during Tuesday’s World News Tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET.
