Marvin Gaye's estate has been entangled in a legal battle with Robin Thicke and Pharrellover the similarities between their song "Blurred Lines" and Marvin Gaye's 1977 classic "Got To Give It Up." Unfortunately for Thicke and Pharrell, Marvin Gaye's family has come out on top in the first legal battle.

According to Billboard, U.S. District Judge John Kronstadt has denied Thicke and Pharrell's motion for summary judgment. Kronstadt claims that the Gaye family, "have made a sufficient showing that elements of 'Blurred Lines' may be substantially similar to protected, original elements of 'Got to Give It Up.' Defendants have identified these with particularity for purposes of analytic dissection." The judge also claims that he won't allow Thicke and Pharrell to win at this juncture because of the similarities between Gaye's "After The Dance" and Robin's song "Love After War." Gaye's estate used the similarities between those two songs to prove that Thicke had a "Marvin Gaye fixation."

This doesn't mean that Thicke and Pharrell are doomed. The trial isn't until February 10, 2015 and anything can happen between then and now. However, this stress has only added toThicke's awful year. We're sure he can't wait for it to end.
