Late last night, the nominees for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards were announced. The first thing that jumps out at me is how well hip-hop is represented this year. The next thing that caught my eye is that
The Roots locked down 5 Grammy Nominations in total: The Legendary Roots Crew are up for Best R&B Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocals with
John Legendfor "Shine," Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance with John Legend for "Hang On In There," Best R&B Album with John Legend for
Wake Up!, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with John Legend for "Wake Up Everybody" feat.
Common &
Melanie Fiona, and, perhaps most exciting, for Best Rap Album for
How I Got Over. Anyone who's heard
Wake Up! and
How I Got Over I'm sure would agree these nominations are well deserved. Leading the way in Grammy nominations is
Eminemwith 10, following him is
Bruno Mars with 7, and
Jay-Z with 6.
B.o.B and John Legend each landed 5 nominations. Other artists of OKP interest who picked up nominations include
Fela!,
Cee-Lo Green, El Debarge, Esperanza Spalding, Sade, The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, Jill Scott, Ronald Isley, Aretha Franklin, Janelle Monae, Danger Mouse, Raheem DeVaughn, Bilal, and
Eric Roberson. We would like to send our congratulations out to all of the nominees. Lets all keep our fingers crossed for The Roots crew and John Legend - tune in to CBS on February 13th at 8pm. You can check after the jump for a list of the major categories (the rest are
